God, Your holiness is the most difficult of all your attributes to explain, because it is one of your essential attributes that is not shared, inherently, by us. We are created in Your image, and can share in many of Your attributes, —love, mercy, faithfulness. But many of Your attributes, omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence, will never be shared with us.

Lord, another one of those attributes we don’t fully comprehend or fully grasp the enormity of but do catch a glimpse of is Holiness. It is not something that we possess or exists as a part of our nature; we only become holy, through our relationship to Christ. It was through your great love full of mercy, that Ephesians 2 reminds us of. The holiness we gain is only in Christ; it is only through Him that we “become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Lord, Your holiness is what separates You from us and it is only because of Christ that we are allowed this audience with you. May we always remember that and honor and glorify your name. Lord, your holiness embodies the mystery of Your Awemaxing power and causes us to gaze in wonder at You as we begin to comprehend just a little of His majesty. 

I ask Lord, that we each consciously set self aside so that your Spirit that you graciously gave us can have full reign in our lives and in this board and in this meeting. We want you to be exalted and only your name to be lifted up. It is in your Son’s most Holy and precious name, Jesus that we pray these things.
